Carol Horton is an author, columnist, research consultant, and, lucky for us, a skilled yoga teacher and practitioner! She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and writes about yoga through a unique social science lense. In her book, Yoga Ph.D.: Integrating the Life of the Mind and the Wisdom of the Body, she celebrates the 5,000 year old spiritual practice redesigned to work within contemporary society.
Carol has also been involved in numerous yoga outreach programs that offer yoga classes and teacher training in low-income communities in Chicago, as well as women’s prisons and drop-in centers for women’s shelters.
For more, listen to Carol Horton talk about 21st century yoga in America in All Sides with Ann Fisher from WOSU Natioanl Public Radio Ohio.
Join us with Carol on October 24th as we discuss Yoga in America and it’s early ‘Utopian’ beginnings in the 1924 yoga retreat in Nyack, NY.
